From your accomodation in Sorrento area, your private tour will start. Your driver from Rosato private Tours will pick you up and head straight off in the direction of Pompei, where you will visit the renowned archaeological site. In 79 AD, both the city and its inhabitants were swallowed up by the fury of Mount Vesuvius. The eruption covered the city and surrounding area in molten lava and ash, destroying all the towns in its path, not on Pompei but also Herculaneum, Stabia and Oplontis. Today we can see the city just how it was back then, the streets, the shops, the temples, the amphitheatre, the Villas of the wealthy and the normal dwellings of the common people, all thanks to dedicated archaeology teams who work tirelessly to uncover the site. You have the option of booking a local guide – who will make sure that you get the absolute most out of your 2-hour visit.
After around 2 hours we will leave and head off in the direction of Mount Vesuvius itself. Your driver will be able to accompany you to the 1000m mark. From there your tour will continue on foot, leading you up to the very top of the summit of Mount Vesuvius. Breath in the wonderful nature you will find here and see the most breath-taking views of the Gulf of Naples. Remember this is not a simple mountain – this active volcano has been monitored continuously 24 hours a day since 1944. A totally unique experience. After you had time to take some photos head back to where your driver dropped you off and its on to the last stop of the day.
This majestic volcano is not only a stunning backdrop to our day – but its slopes, rich with volcanic soil is prime land for cultivation. One of the main things to be produced on these slopes are vines and then the production of wine. You will get to see this process first-hand when we visit a winery here on the slopes. We will start the tour with a walk in the vineyards themselves, the same ones that the Romans themselves cultivated, you will have an expert explain the process used today before you start the tasting, try local delicacies paired to the different wines. The wines include many famous one from the Campania region including Lacrima Christy. After a while to relax your driver will accompany you back to Sorrento – with a little stop en route to take your last few photographs of the beautiful Sorrentine Peninsula.
