This town clings dramatically to the cliff side – and is a sight that will stay with you forever. The pastel coloured houses, and bougainvillea lined streets, all contribute to make something that looks more like an oil painting than an actual town. As we wined our way down towards the beach area – Marina Grande – the narrow streets are buzzing with shops and people, hotels and houses – all combining to create a bustling area with showcases the famous “moda Positano” a very unique take on Italian beach wear. This little town is also full of local artists; you can browse around while enjoying one of our fantastic “gelato” ice creams. Please note the car can only go down so far in Positano, and we will accompany you then on foot down to the sea front. We will then head on down the coast, passing the beautiful little villages of Furore, Praiano & Conca dei Marini.
Amalfi has a glorious Sea fairing past – with its roots steeped in the beautiful Mediterrenean Sea which it sits proudly on. The most famous landmark on dry land however, is the breathtaking “Duomo” – the cathedral, which you will find in the centre of town in the picturesque main square. Set up on high, up an impressive flight of steps, this is truly something to behold. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Andrew. Looking up to the bell tower – the Saracen link to the area is very apparent. It has a beautiful mosaic outer wall with a gold roof. Something else that Amalfi is very well known for is its production of hand made paper. This is still produced today as it has been for many many years. We will stop here for some lunch, where your driver will be able to recommend a local restaurant, so that you can sample some of the many delicious dishes that we have to offer here. You must also try the local tipple – Limoncello – this is a very strong, but effective digestive drink. Made locally and to a very traditional recipe, this will help your dinner go down a treat.
To get to Ravello, we will leave the coastal road and head up high into the mountains. Crossing over the “Valle del Dragone”. Ravello is like natures terrace, sitting proudly above the glistening Mediterranean. In the summer months the “Ravello festival” is held – an open air classic music festival – it is an oasis of calm after our two bustling previous stops. In the towns main square stands the Cathedral which is dedicated to Saint Pantaleone. From this square we can then access the famous Villa Rufolo. This has the most amazing gardens and a view to die for. The view that you will down on is the spectacular bay of Salerno. Dotted with statues and fountains from years gone by, from another time when the world moved at a much slower pace. So as you can see – this is an absolutely unmissable day out, and all this done in the comfort of your own private car, making it a truly relaxing and unforgettable day.
