The tour starts at the port of Sorrento, where one of our authorised English-speaking guides will be awaiting you, where the tender of your cruise drops you off. You will be able to spot them straight away as they will be holding a board with your name on it! After purchasing your tickets for the hydrofoil, we will head straight over to the Island. The crossing takes around 20 minutes during which time you will be able to discuss the planned itinerary for your day in Capri.
The first stop of the day is going to be one of the most important attractions that Capri has to offer – the Blue Grotto. This probably the most famous grotto in the world, it has been visited and admired since Roman times. To gain access inside the grotto, we must use small boats, as the entrance is a narrow slit in the cliff face – access will always be dependent on sea and weather conditions. Normally there is no problem – especially first thing in the morning. The blue hue of the water and the voices of the local fishermen will leave you with an unforgettable memory. After we finish here, we will get a local convertible taxi (or minivan depending on your party size) which will take us up to AnaCapri, to reach here we will be using the narrowest road on the Island “Mamma Mia Road” but it does offer the most amazing views of both the Gulf of Naples and the Amalfi Coast.
AnaCapri, inhabited since Greek times and thus given the name meaning “Upper Capri” is a wonderful little town, and is the 2nd most inhabited area on the Island, and sits at a height of 327 meters above sea level, with breath-taking views. But our tour is going up even further, to the very highest point – Monte Solaro, which we will reach by talking a 10-minute chair lift! From Monte Solaro, height 589 meters above sea level, you will get the chance to get the very best view of the Gulf of Naples and of the Island itself with its many lemon groves, olive trees and vineyards rendering the slopes so beautiful. After the visit to Monte Solaro we will head back down to AnaCapri to visit the wondering gardens of Villa San Michele, created by the famous Swedish writer “Alex Munthe” – or alternatively you can choose to have a wander around the lovely little local shops.
Its time for lunch and your guide will be able to help you find the perfect restaurant. This way you can avoid any tourist traps and get to sample to same foods that the locals enjoy, dishes such as “Spaghetto allo scoglio”, “insalata Caprese” or the famous “torta Caprese” a delicious chocolate and almond cake. We will jump back in the taxi to head back down to Capri town – here the narrow streets are lined with famous boutiques and the famous “piazzetta” square is the perfect place to sit and enjoy an ice cream, trying to spot the VIP’s. We will then head to the famous Gardens of Augustus – a public garden that offers the most perfect view of the Faraglioni rocks in all their glory, perfect for some last photos before we start the journey back to Sorrento Port. Taking the Funicular railway back down to the Port of Capri, we will pick up the hydrofoil back to Sorrento. The shore excursion from Sorrento to Capri will last approximately 8 hours based on a departure from the Port of Sorrento at 08.00h
