Perched on a volcanic cliff overlooking the Bay of Naples, Sorrento is famous for its oranges and lemons and for the “limoncello” liqueur made with these fruits. Homer narrates that just near Sorrento Ulysses avoided to go crazy because of the call of the Sirens by putting wax into his sailors’ ears and by having himself tied to the mast of his ship. Sorrento has a pleasant atmosphere, a beautiful and historic town centre sprinkled with well-known restaurants, and an interesting small private museum.
Sorrento is the ideal point to leave for Monti Lattari, a place charming and still uncontaminated.
